Pernyataan Masalah / Isu:
The subject of incest has remained a taboo for the longest period allowing this crime to be the top 3
crime reported amongst children. The pandemic has somehow allowed the cases to be on the spike
due home confinement with family members who are the likely perpetrators to the victims.
Nilai dan Kepercayaan:
Improve access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) services among children through
SRHR education and awareness raising to strengthen communities’ overall well-being. Once the
community is equipped with knowledge on SRHR, they will be more likely to seek help including in
dire situations.
Cadangan Penyelesaian dan Seruan Tindakan:
1. In the best interest of the safety of our children, especially in an unprecedented times like
the pandemic, a concerted effort should be in place to prevent incest incidences. The
‘gatekeepers’ per say i.e. teachers, counselors, family members should be educated on
identifying warning signs.
2. Awareness on reporting mechanisms should also be taught to victims so that they will be
empowered to come forward to report these incidents. Besides that, PDRM should play an
instrumental role in combating this increasing crime and not disregard it as a familial issue.
Fundamentally, an act should be in place to tie all these variables to ensure ‘No Child is Left
Behind” when safety is concerned.
